Pimp your iPhone (updated)

Getting started…

There’s plenty of apps in the app store these days, here’s my favorite freebies…

  • Last.fm iPhone client (free) – stream music and browse Last.fm from your iPhone
  • Eventful (free) – uses the iPhone GPS to show you events, gigs, etc going on in your vicinity
  • Midomi (free) – capture the radio, tv or just sing a tune and Midomi will tell you what the song is!
  • Evernote for iPhone (free) – not heard about Evernote yet? Go take a look!
  • SearchQuest GPS (free) – share your GPS location so friends can find you
  • Palringo (free) – an instant messenger client for the iPhone. Supports iChat, AIM, Google Talk, Yahoo! Messenger, Windows Live Messenger, ICQ, Jabber and more.
  • LocalPicks by TripAdvisor (free) – TripAdvisor is a great site for hotels, restaurants, etc – and this shows you what’s good nearby based on your GPS location
  • TubeStatus (free) – London Underground service info
  • Mixology 101 (free) – 10,000 drinks at your fingertips (webapp)

Lastly, some folks don’t know you can rearrange the icons, or delete them (yeah, I know!). Just hold your finger down over an icon, and wait for them to start “wiggling”. You can then drag them about, or click the X to remove an app. Clicking the home button finishes.
